Natasha Gregson Wagner was born in Los Angeles in 1970. She grew up under the weight of a last name that wasn't hers and a tragedy that was. Her mother was Natalie Wood, and her biological father was producer Richard Gregson. But Robert Wagner was the constant father figure who stepped in after her parents divorced.
And the industry was waiting for her with open arms and half-closed eyes.
Her real debut came in 1992 with Fathers & Sons. She wasn't looking for big studio productions. She preferred the independent cinema of the nineties. In 1997, she played Sheila in Lost Highway under the direction of David Lynch. That film pulled her out of the Hollywood heiress circuit and put her on the cult cinema map.
Filming Lynch was a technical turning point in how she understood acting. There, she learned that silence communicates more than overacted dialogue. So she decided to follow that path of restraint in her next projects.
She worked with James Toback on Two Girls and a Guy that same year. She shared the screen with Robert Downey Jr. and Heather Graham in a film shot in just eleven days. It was pure acting endurance. The script centered on a dialectical showdown in a New York apartment.
But the general public recognized her for her teen horror roles.
In 1998, she appeared in Urban Legend. She was one of the victims of a killer who followed urban legends. The film grossed 72 million dollars worldwide. Shortly after, she appeared in High Fidelity in 2000. Her role was small but essential to understanding the emotional chaos of the lead character, played by John Cusack.
During the 2000s she alternated between film and television. In 2005 she joined the cast of the series The 4400, where she played April Skouris. The show ran until 2007. At this stage, her screen presence became more selective. Before accepting a role, she weighed the dramatic weight of a part above media exposure.
She spent much of the 2010s away from the spotlight. She focused on creating a perfume line inspired by her mother. The fragrance launched in 2016 under the name Natalie. It was her first serious foray into business beyond the sets.
In 2020 she published her memoir titled More Than Love. The book explores her relationship with Natalie Wood and the trauma of their disappearance. That same year she produced the documentary Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind for HBO. The film uses family archive footage that had never been shown to the public.
She wasn't seeking forgiveness, but clarity.
The documentary received positive critical acclaim for its intimate approach. In 2024, she remained involved in managing her family's legacy. Her most recent on-screen work as a long-running voice actress was on the series Family Guy, across several episodes aired between 2005 and 2023. She lives in California with her husband, actor Barry Watson, and their daughter Clover Clementyne.
Executive producing biographical documentaries now takes up most of her professional schedule. In 2023 she oversaw the remastering of several classic titles from the family production company. The actress's personal archive contains more than five thousand unseen photographs from Hollywood's golden age.
