I think my mask of sanity is about to slip away.

New York, 1987. Patrick Bateman is an investment banker who meticulously maintains a polished image in front of society. He frequents trendy restaurants, is obsessed with his appearance, and moves in a circle of wealthy acquaintances he secretly despises. He is engaged to Evelyn Williams, and his routine revolves around suits, reservations and social obligations. Yet violent urges are growing inside him that don't fit the facade he keeps up. During a business meeting, Bateman and his colleagues show off their business cards, each trying to prove that his design is more exclusive than the others. Directed by Mary Harron, the film follows Bateman, played by Christian Bale, as he struggles to sustain that appearance of normalcy.

Trivia about American Psycho

Bale drew on an interview with Tom Cruise on a talk show to build Patrick Bateman. Harron recalled that the kindness seemed to have nothing behind the eyes.
Lionsgate planned to raise the budget to 40 million dollars so it could pay Leonardo DiCaprio, who was asking for 21 million.
Harron nicknamed Bale "Robo-Actor" for his ability to control his sweat glands, something she and her colleagues noticed during the business card scene.
The song "Hip to Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News appears in the film, but its removal forced Koch Records to recall roughly 100,000 copies of the album.

Quotes by American Psycho

  • [repeated line] I have to return some videotapes.
  • "BLEACH-EE"? You trying to say "Bleach-ee"? Bleach-ee, oh my god. Two things. One: You can't bleach a Cerruti. Out of the question. Two: I can only get these sheets in Santa Fe and these are very expensive sheets and I need them clean by this afternoon!
  • If you don't shut your fucking mouth, I will kill you.
  • Listen, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND YOU! This is crazy! You're a fool, I can't cope with this STUPID BITCH-EE! UNDERSTAND?!
  • I like to dissect girls. Did you know I'm utterly insane?
  • Look at that subtle off-white coloring; the tasteful thickness of it... Oh my God, it even has a watermark.
