The Face That Wasn't Hers

Jillian Murray never had to speak to make millions of people recognize her face. In 2007, the company Bioware scanned her face to create Liara T’Soni, one of the central characters in the Mass Effect video game franchise.

That technical decision shaped his public image long before the film industry took him seriously. Before arriving in Los Angeles, he lived in Reading, Pennsylvania, and had no industry contacts.

That was the first real step.

In Hollywood, beginnings tend to be loud and far from glamorous. Murray left her home state with a firm plan to act and ended up filming The Fun Park in 2007, a horror film that flew under the critics' radar but taught her how a professional set really works.

Blood, Sweat and the Home Market

The video-on-demand and DVD market was her home for five years. In 2010 she starred in Wild Things: Foursome, and a year later in Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown.

These are productions aimed at quick profits rather than Academy applause. But she used the physical training from those action films to catch the attention of casting directors at major television networks.

And the strategy worked.

In 2015 she landed the role of Dr. Heather Pinkney on the medical drama Code Black. She stayed for two full seasons. The demands of shooting twenty-two episodes a year gave her the technical grounding that B-movies had denied her until then.

Television pays the bills.

The Alliance With Dean Geyer

Her personal and professional lives became permanently intertwined in 2017 after she married actor Dean Geyer. Together, they began managing their own careers with an independent producer's mindset.

They didn't wait for the phone to ring with big offers from the usual studios. In 2021 they worked together on Christmas in the Pines and repeated the family film formula in A Christmas to Treasure in 2022.

Stability comes from controlled projects.

Murray has a loyal fan base thanks to her ties to the tech industry and digital modeling. In 2023 she starred in Overlook, a psychological thriller filmed entirely on locations in Ontario on a budget of under five million dollars.
