Leslie Bevis stands five foot ten, and that height marked her first steps on the runways of Europe before Hollywood put a contract on the table. She had no interest in being the girl next door. Her look projected a natural authority that 1980s casting directors knew how to exploit for roles as cold women or high-ranking aliens.
She made her big-screen debut with a brief role in Ghostbusters in 1984. It was a discreet entrance into one of the decade's biggest productions. But her real breakthrough came when she donned the makeup to play Captain Grazer in Alien Nation in 1988.
There, it wasn't her face that mattered but her presence.
She stayed connected to science fiction with appearances on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, where she played Rillak in 1993. She worked under layers of latex and silicone during fourteen-hour shooting days. Fans of the franchise still look for her photos at collector conventions. Bevis had a rare ability to act through prosthetics without losing the elegance of her years in fashion.
In 1998, she landed a role on The Young and the Restless, bringing Ruth Robbins to life. It was a necessary change of pace to move away from special effects. She appeared in dozens of episodes until 1999, and her character moved through the offices with the same ease she had in spaceships.
And that's exactly why TV producers kept calling her.
In 1990, she appeared on the series The Flash playing the police captain. It was a constant in her career. She almost always ended up in a uniform or a power suit. But her work on Night Court or Murder, She Wrote showed she could handle the rhythm of comedy and classic suspense without missing a beat.
The industry typecast her as the efficient one.
During the filming of Alien Nation in 1988, the makeup team spent four hours a day transforming her face. The actress amassed more than thirty television credits before drastically cutting back on her public appearances. By 2026, her appearances were limited to production archives and memories of the golden age of practical makeup. The mold of her face for the special effects is kept in a technical storage warehouse in Los Angeles.
