Lili Reinhart arrived in Los Angeles at eighteen with barely a few dollars to her name. It was not a triumphant landing. Anxiety and a lack of opportunities forced her to give up and move back in with her parents in Ohio after a few months of failed attempts. At that point, acting seemed like a door that had closed for good.
And the defeat almost became permanent.
But in 2016, one last audition came through, recorded in her bedroom. The role of Betty Cooper in Riverdale not only gave her steady work starting in 2017. It gave her a global platform that she chose to manage with a coolness rare in the television industry. The CW series ran for seven seasons and ended in 2023.
The young star label is often a trap few escape. Reinhart understood early on that acting for others was not enough to survive being forgotten. That is why she founded her own production company, Small Victory Productions, in 2020. Her intention was clear from the start: she was looking for projects with a darker, more real emotional weight.
The first result of this bet was Chemical Hearts in 2020. On this film, she not only starred but also served as executive producer. She signed an exclusive deal with Amazon Studios in 2021 to develop film and television under her own creative vision.
The industry is a numbers game.
She published a poetry book titled Swimming Lessons in 2020. In its pages, she wrote candidly about her relationship with depression and fame, without sugarcoating it with metaphors. The book quickly reached the New York Times Best Sellers list. It sold more than 100,000 copies in its first months of distribution.
Her big-screen breakthrough came in 2019 with Hustlers. She shared the screen with Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu, playing a dancer with a very distinctive physical reaction to stress. It was a supporting role, but it helped her prove she could hold her own in high-budget ensemble casts.
In 2022, she starred in Look Both Ways for Netflix. The film played with the narrative of parallel realities and held the number one spot on the most-watched list for two consecutive weeks. This project confirmed that her name could carry a production on its own, without the support of a previous franchise.
Her mental health is a technical factor in her career.
She has an anxiety disorder diagnosed when she was fourteen. She talks about it in interviews to explain why she selects certain shoots and turns down others that demand aggressive media exposure. In 2024, she joined the cast of the series Hal & Harper alongside Mark Ruffalo, directed by Cooper Raiff.
She worked on the set of the film Death of a Unicorn during 2023 for A24. This black comedy was shot on location in Hungary with a budget of fifteen million dollars.
