Mariana Treviño was born in Monterrey and trained in contemporary dance before stepping onto a professional stage. She studied Modern Language and Literature at UNAM, but her real school was the independent theater circuit. For years, she worked on projects that barely covered her bills in Mexico City.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2015, the premiere of Club de Cuervos radically changed her professional life. She played Isabel Iglesias in Netflix's first original Spanish-language production and carried the weight of the plot across four seasons. She gave a character who could have fallen into the caricature of the businesswoman real layers of frustration and power.
Before achieving mass fame, she was part of the phenomenon of Mentiras el musical in 2009. That production changed the rules of commercial theater in Mexico, and Treviño proved she could sing and act under constant technical pressure. That experience gave her the tools to handle the chaos of large-scale shoots.
In 2019, she appeared in Polvo (a film directed by José María Yazpik), and the role earned her a nomination for the Ariel Award. It was the moment critics stopped seeing her only as a TV comedy actress. The film received 11 nominations in total and put her name on the desks of the most demanding casting directors.
But she always returns to comedy when the script makes sense.
In 2022, she landed the most ambitious international project of her professional career. She shot A Man Called Otto alongside Tom Hanks under director Marc Forster. The director was looking for someone with boundless energy for the role of Marisol, and found in Treviño the perfect foil for the lead's bad mood.
She shot her scenes in Pittsburgh over several months of bitter cold. She had to adapt her working method to the demanding schedule of a Hollywood blockbuster, where there is almost no room for error. The film grossed over $112 million at the global box office and opened the doors of the U.S. actors' unions to her.
But the American market demands technical sacrifices.
In 2024, she lent her voice to the Spanish-language version of Kung Fu Panda 4, playing the Chameleon. That same year, she finished shooting the comedy Caras vemos, where she shared the cast with Bruno Bichir under director Beto Gómez. The production was completed in a record five weeks at various locations in Mexico City.
The distribution deal for her next two 2025 projects was signed for a figure exceeding three million dollars per territory.
