Megan Boone was born in Michigan in 1983 but grew up in The Villages, a Florida community designed by her own grandfather as a retirement community for thousands of people. While her family managed the development of the area, she sought a different path. She studied acting at Florida State University and completed her education in 2005.
And that's where the real journey began.
Her commercial film debut came in 2009 with the horror film My Bloody Valentine 3D. It was a supporting role in a genre production, but it taught her how the major studios operate. A year later, she made a brief appearance in Sex and the City 2, playing a young ally of the leads in a single scene.
Before breaking into national television, she worked on independent projects and short films that barely received commercial distribution. Her salary in those early years was that of any aspiring actress in Los Angeles. She appeared in Law & Order: LA in 2010, but the show was canceled after just one season on air.
In 2013, she signed the contract that defined her career for nearly a decade. NBC chose her to star in The Blacklist alongside James Spader. She played Elizabeth Keen, a rookie FBI profiler who gets caught up in a top-tier international criminal plot.
Her professional relationship with Spader was complex and very demanding. Boone had to learn to carry the weight of a series that aired 22 episodes per season, with 14-hour shooting days in New York. In 2017, she took an academic break to pursue a master's degree in Sustainability at Bard College while still working.
But television's pace never stops.
Over eight seasons, her character went from a naive agent to a dark fugitive. The actress negotiated her contracts, pushing for pay parity, which was not always easy to secure in the network's offices. In 2021, she announced her full departure from the series just before the final episode of the eighth season to pursue other professional goals.
After leaving the role of Elizabeth Keen, the actress decided she didn't want to depend solely on the decisions of other producers. In 2021, she founded her own company, Weird Sister, and signed a partnership deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop original scripted projects.
And the gamble paid off.
Her return to on-screen acting came in 2023 on the anthology series Accused. In the episode titled Jenny's Tale, she played a deaf woman caught in a legal dispute over a surrogate pregnancy. For this role, she worked with sign language consultants and pursued a physical performance far removed from her previous work.
Boone stays away from the Hollywood social scene and keeps a low profile with her personal investments. The deal signed with Sony in 2021 includes the development of multiple series in which she serves as executive producer without needing to appear in the final cast.
