Mike Vogel didn't arrive in Los Angeles with a master plan. In 2001, he was working as a model for Levi’s, and that job opened the door to his first serious audition. He landed a supporting role in the series Grounded for Life almost without trying.
That sitcom taught him how a professional shoot works. But horror films came knocking on his door much sooner than expected.
In 2003, he took part in the reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The film earned more than $100 million worldwide and put his face on the radar of major California studios.
That was just the beginning.
In the years that followed, he took on projects that aimed to capitalize on his physical appearance. In 2005, he shot The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and a year later he came aboard Poseidon. The latter was a massive 160-million-dollar production that failed to deliver the box office results it had hoped for.
Disaster films crossed his path again in 2008 with Cloverfield. This time the approach was different. Vogel played Jason Hawkins in a handheld-camera film that changed how audiences viewed monster movies.
But television remained his most dependable home.
In 2013, he joined the cast of Bates Motel as Deputy Zack Shelby. His time on the show was brief but intense. That same year, he accepted the lead role in Under the Dome, the adaptation of the novel by Stephen King that ran for three full seasons.
Vogel has a special connection to military or police characters. In 2017, he starred in The Brave, playing Captain Adam Dalton. For this role, he underwent real tactical training with former special forces members.
The project only lasted one season.
Despite the industry's ups and downs, the actor has always kept a cautious distance from red carpet fame. He lives away from the noise of Hollywood and devotes much of his free time to his work as a licensed private pilot.
In 2021, he returned to episodic television with Sex/Life for Netflix. The series generated massive buzz on social media due to its highly erotic content. Vogel played Cooper Connelly across the show's 14 episodes before its final cancellation.
Filming for the second stage of this production wrapped in Toronto in May 2022.
