Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?

Gotham City lives under the threat of a masked vigilante who hunts the city's criminals. Journalist Alexander Knox and photographer Vicki Vale follow the trail of the man they call The Batman and want to find out who he is. Meanwhile, millionaire Bruce Wayne hosts a charity gala attended by both reporters. Since childhood, Wayne has been haunted by the memory of how a robber murdered his parents before his eyes, a wound that shapes every step he takes. During the party, Wayne is drawn to Vicki, and the encounter puts the two of them in an unexpected situation. Tim Burton directs the film and Michael Keaton stars as the lead, alongside Jack Nicholson and Kim Basinger.

Trivia about The Batman

After it was announced that Michael Keaton would play The Batman, Warner Bros. reportedly received more than 500 000 protest letters from fans.

Nicholson asked for all of his scenes to be shot in three weeks, but filming dragged on for 106 days.

Sean Young was the first choice to play Vicki Vale, but she suffered an injury in a horseback riding accident before filming began.

Michael Keaton decided that The Batman's voice should be deeper than Bruce Wayne's, a trait that became the character's trademark in the movie version.

The Batman was one of the first films to release two soundtracks: one with songs by Prince and another with the score by Danny Elfman.

The Gotham City set occupied a 51-acre backlot at Pinewood, one of the largest ever built at that studio.

"The Batman" was the first film to gross 100 million dollars in its first ten days and ended up as the highest-grossing film of 1989, not counting revenue from toys and other merchandise.

The film won the Oscar for Best Art Direction for the production design by Anton Furst, who also designed the Batmobile.

Quotes by Batman

[reads newspaper] "Winged freak terrorizes". Wait till they get a load of ME!
Bob the Goon: [points his revolver to Gordon's head after Batman grabs Jack] Let him go, or I'll do Gordon!
Batman? Batman? Can somebody tell me what kind of a world we live in where a man dressed up as a bat gets all of my press?! This town needs an enema!
