Forbidden Planet

Hailed as one of the classics of adult science fiction, Forbidden Planet is one of the great films made during the 1950s, alongside others such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), and The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). But its importance goes further, as Forbidden Planet also planted the seeds for much of the science fiction that would be developed for the big and small screen from the 1960s onward. It's not hard to see in the crew of the spaceship the forerunners of the Enterprise crew in Star Trek, and in the robot an ancestor of C-3PO. It was also innovative in its soundtrack, as it was the first film with a fully electronic score, synthesized with custom-built electronic circuits, though it is ambient music rather than symphonic.
