Pablo Quintero is a successful gay film and theater director who has just premiered his latest work, El paradigma del mejillón. The story kicks off in Madrid, at the after-party for the premiere, a festive atmosphere that contrasts with the argument that breaks out between Pablo and Juan, his lover, who is much younger than he is. At stake are their summer plans. Pablo plans to stay in the capital to work on a new project. Juan, on the other hand, wants to return to his hometown in the south to work in a bar and spend time with his family. Their schedules don't match, and the couple must decide what place each one will hold in the other's life. Eusebio Poncela plays Pablo in this film, which was written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar.

Trivia about Law of Desire

Due to a lack of funds, Almodóvar did not commission a complete original soundtrack and instead turned to classical pieces that were in the public domain or cheap to license.
The total budget was 100 million pesetas, less than Almodóvar's previous film, and the Ministry of Culture contributed 40 million to make it.
Almodóvar chose the version of "Ne me quitte pas" by bossa nova singer Maysa Matarazzo, a song that Jacques Brel first recorded in 1959.
In the scene at the video game arcade, Antonio lights his cigarette and Pablo's, a nod to the film Now, Voyager (1942), directed by Irving Rapper.
