Life, love, desire... and everything else.

Madrid, Christmas 1970. A state of emergency declared by the Franco dictatorship restricts civil liberties. On a bus, a young prostitute, Isabel Plaza Caballero, gives birth to a son she names Víctor. The story moves forward to an adult Víctor, a young man with no fortune who has a chance sexual encounter with Elena. Determined to see her again, he goes to her apartment. There, however, he runs into two armed policemen, and what he hoped would be a reunion begins to go wrong. Pedro Almodóvar directs the film, which stars Javier Bardem, Francesca Neri, and Liberto Rabal.

Trivia about Live Flesh

Jorge Sanz was originally cast as the lead, but he was replaced by Liberto Rabal after filming had already begun, following disagreements with the director.
The film is based on a 1986 novel by English author Ruth Rendell, which gives the film its original English title.
One of its scenes made use of the Christmas decorations on Arenal Street in Madrid, which were already up for the season.
On its opening weekend in Spain, it earned 800,000 dollars from 125 theaters and became the first Spanish film of the year to top the box office.
