Synopsis of Cape Fear

Max Cady is released from prison after seventeen years behind bars for the murder of his pregnant wife. He is a cruel ex-convict who hasn't changed and who is out with one clear goal: revenge. His target is Anna Bowden, the lawyer who defended him at trial, and also Tom, her husband and the prosecutor who handled the case in which Cady pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty. The story is set in Savannah, where Anna works at the SJLP law firm, and begins with Cady's arrival in the couple's life. The psychological thriller miniseries created by Nick Antosca airs on Apple TV, with Javier Bardem as Max Cady, Amy Adams as Anna and Patrick Wilson as Tom.

Trivia about Cape Fear

Nick Antosca had been a fan of both Cape Fear movies since childhood and asked Universal to develop an adaptation of them.

Morten Tyldum joined as executive producer and director of the pilot when it was announced that CCH Pounder had joined the main cast.

Filming began in Atlanta on April 30, 2025 and wrapped on October 15, 2025.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has an approval rating of 75%, based on 76 reviews.

Wesley Strick plays an ER doctor who treats Zack, and he also wrote the screenplay for the 1991 adaptation of the movie.

The series was conceived as a limited adaptation of ten episodes, with weekly releases until July 31, 2026, rather than being initially planned as an open-ended production spanning several seasons.

Nick Antosca explained that the concept introduced contemporary changes and elements compared to the earlier films, and that Universal gave its approval to develop this new version.

The series' world premiere in Los Angeles brought together Nick Antosca, Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, Lily Collias, Joe Anders, Malia Pyles, Jamie Hector and Anna Baryshnikov.
