Humanity Will See the Dark Side of the Moon...

In 2011, astronaut Brian Harper joins a mission aboard a space shuttle tasked with repairing a satellite in orbit. While working alongside his crewmates, Harper witnesses something that doesn't match any protocol: a dark, mysterious swarm approaching the orbiter. From his position, Brian is the only one who can see it clearly, and he knows the crew is in danger. His priority becomes regaining control of the ship before the attack leaves it disabled. Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film opens a story in which one man must decide what to do with what he has seen.

Trivia about Moonfall

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, in October 2023, that Moonfall breaks more laws of physics per minute than any other science fiction movie he had ever seen, surpassing Armageddon.

The pandemic made it impossible to shoot on location, forcing the crew to build 135 different sets, most of them constructed across six soundstages at Grandé Studios.

Moonfall has 1700 visual effects shots, divided mainly among four companies: Scanline VFX, Pixomondo, DNEG and Framestore.

The idea came after reading the book Who Built the Moon? by Christopher Knight and Alan Butler, which explored the hollow Moon hypothesis.

In China, the movie earned 9.7 million dollars during its opening weekend and knocked The Batman off the top spot.

The movie was a box office flop, earning 67.3 million dollars worldwide on a budget of 150 million.

During filming, a real astronaut advised the production, but whenever he pointed out that something wasn't possible, Roland Emmerich asked him to accept creative license because "it was just a movie."

Roland Emmerich said in 2024 that he had come up with a story for "Moonfall 2," though he believed it would probably never be made.
