Maxim Roy was born in Rigaud into a family where film was not an option but the natural language of the home. Her brothers Gildor, Luc and Yvon already knew the ins and outs of the Canadian industry when she decided her future was in front of the camera.
The calling was inevitable.
She debuted in the 1990s with local projects that quickly made her an essential face of French-language television. In 1994 she joined the series A nous deux!, and from that point on she understood that her career would move between two languages. But Roy never settled for being a regional celebrity in Montreal.
In 2011 the project arrived that changed how international critics saw her. Her role as Detective Isabelle Latendresse in the original version of 19-2 demanded a restrained dramatic performance that few actors manage to sustain over several seasons. The shoot for this police drama was tough and grueling.
And the gamble paid off.
That work opened the doors to major American productions without losing her roots in Canadian auteur cinema. Because Maxim Roy has always preferred complex characters over the safe roles of the flawless lead. In 2014 she joined the cast of Bad Blood, bringing a necessary restraint to a story of mafia and violence.
Her entry into the world of Shadowhunters in 2016 marked a shift toward a global, young audience. Playing Jocelyn Fray brought her massive visibility on social media and at international conventions. But behind the makeup and special effects, Roy kept seeking control over her own work.
The global market was no longer unfamiliar territory.
She founded her own production company to develop stories that moved beyond the female stereotypes common in commercial television. In 2021 she joined the series Resident Alien, where she showed that her range could move naturally from pure drama to sci-fi comedy. A year later she appeared in Moonshine (2022) and kept her presence in TV fiction with Plan B for 2023.
The actress balances these shoots with a strong environmental activism that has kept her tied to Greenpeace for years. In 2024 her production company registered three new fiction projects for the French-speaking market.
