Trivia about The Gunman

Before shooting, Sean Penn visited Peoria, Arizona, to learn how to handle the guns that appear in the film.

Filming began in the spring of 2013 and took place in Barcelona, Logroño, Gibraltar, Cape Town and at Wimbledon Studios in England.

The film is based on the novel The Prone Gunman by 1981, written by French crime novelist Jean-Patrick Manchette.

At the box office, it grossed 24.2 million dollars worldwide, against a production budget of 40 million.

The cast brings together three Oscar winners: Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Mark Rylance. The film earned one nomination in total, according to its IMDb profile.

Sean Penn had long wanted to work with Mark Rylance and agreed to adjust the shooting schedule to the actor's availability.

Joel Silver was removed from the editing room after a visit, and the final cut was supervised by Sean Penn and Pierre Morel.

The film acknowledges in its end credits that bullfighting has been banned in Barcelona for years, although part of the climax is set in a bullring in the city.
