Synopsis of Blood & Water

In Cape Town, Parkhurst College brings together elite students and top achievers. Puleng Khumalo, 16 years old, doesn't know her sister, who was kidnapped at birth as part of a human trafficking ring. One night, at a party she attends on the missing girl's birthday, she meets Wade, who points out the resemblance she shares with Fikile Bhele, a popular athlete and the school's star swimmer. Puleng starts to suspect that Fikile may be her sister. To find out, she transfers to Parkhurst and enrolls in a private school, where she plans to uncover the truth. Ama Qamata plays Puleng in this Netflix series created by Nosipho Dumisa, Daryne Joshua and Travis Taute.

Trivia about Blood & Water

Blood & Water is part of a shared universe with the Spanish series Élite, an unusual connection for a South African production on the platform.

Netflix had acquired its second South African original production, after Queen Sono, a new teen drama from Gambit Films directed by Nosipho Dumisa.

Parts of the University of Cape Town were used to recreate the fictional Parkhurst College, in buildings such as Smuts Hall and Sarah Baartman Hall.

The pool scenes were filmed at Generations School in Somerset West, a different school from the one that appears in the story.

The series won the award for Best TV Drama at the 2021 South African Film and Television Awards, along with awards for cinematography and sound.

The series caught the attention of celebrities such as Gabrielle Union and Lil Nas X after its premiere on the platform.

In June 2023, Netflix announced that season four of "Blood & Water" was already in production, with its premiere scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

Actress Wanda Banda joined the cast of season four, which began filming on November 12, 2023 and wrapped on January 16, 2024.
