What Season 1 of Patrick Melrose
London, 1980s. After his father's death, Patrick Melrose, a British aristocrat, tries to overcome the addictions he has struggled with since childhood. His father treated him cruelly and his mother never protected him, so his demons stem from that abuse and neglect. Patrick wants to face his past, stay sober and fit into society as a stable person, capable of being a good father. The episodes jump between different stages of his life, and relapses test that resolve. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the lead in this adaptation of Edward St Aubyn's semi-autobiographical novels, created by David Nicholls for Showtime and Sky Atlantic.
