Addison Rae is no algorithmic fluke. In 2021, she signed a multi-film deal with Netflix that made the traditional Los Angeles industry nervous. That move wasn't about prestige but about capturing an audience that no longer watches linear television.
Money talks, and she had the numbers.
Born in Lafayette in 2000, her training as a competitive dancer gave her a discipline many mistake for luck. But the technical reality is that Rae understands framing better than many method actors. In July 2019, she posted her first video, and by the end of that same year she was living in a creator house.
Her feature film debut came with He’s All That in 2021. Critics were brutal toward the movie, but viewing numbers justified the platform's multimillion-dollar investment. It was a product designed for quick consumption.
After that premiere, the direction of her career changed. She sought out projects that would move her away from the perfect girl-next-door image from Louisiana. So she took a role in Thanksgiving, the horror film directed by Eli Roth that hit theaters in 2023. In the movie, she played Gabby (a character who gets caught up in a classic slasher plot).
The industry has no patience for boredom.
Betting on horror was a smart move to prove her place on the big screen. Roth praised her punctuality and her ability to repeat physical takes without complaining. After all, working on a set with twelve-hour days requires more endurance than raw talent.
Music was never a side project. In March 2021, she released her first single, Obsessed, and it got a lukewarm reception on mainstream radio. But in the digital space, the song found a second life thanks to remixes and the pop aesthetic of the 2000s.
Two years of musical silence passed until, in August 2023, she released her EP titled AR. The project included outtakes from earlier sessions that her fans had leaked online. The production of these tracks showed an interest in experimental pop that no one expected from a social media star.
She wasn't chasing the number one spot; she was chasing credibility.
On this album she collaborated with artists such as Charli XCX on the song 2 die 4. That partnership opened doors to more demanding creative circles. That's how she stopped being just a familiar face and started being taken seriously by cutting-edge producers.
The beauty business was also part of her professional expansion. In 2020 she launched Item Beauty with the incubator Madeby Collective. The project ended its distribution in brick-and-mortar stores such as Sephora during 2023 to restructure its digital and logistics presence.
By 2025, her name was attached to the production Animal Friends, a film that blends live action and animation. In this project she shares the billing with actors such as Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa. It's a logical step for someone trying to move away from the stigma of pure internet fame.
The film industry in 2024 no longer debates her presence on red carpets. Rae has gone from a fifteen-second phenomenon to a piece of the machinery of major studios. Her ability to mobilize 88 million followers is a marketing tool no producer ignores.
In 2023, her pay for a sponsored post exceeded 150,000 dollars, according to estimates from U.S. marketing agencies.
