From Ballet Pointe Shoes to the Blood of Kattegat

Amy Bailey did not start in front of a movie camera. Her first discipline was professional ballet in England and the United States. That physical rigidity gave her a presence she later used to play women with a rather questionable mental stability.

The body remembers what the mind forgets.

In 2014, she landed the role that defined her international profile. She played Princess Kwenthrith in the series Vikings. She was not an easy character to take in, as she mixed extreme vulnerability with a cruelty that unsettled the male leads.

But the actress did not get stuck in historical period drama. Before that, she had already worked on science fiction productions such as The Sarah Jane Adventures and the film Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton in 2010. On the latter, her work was purely physical (motion capture) to bring the flower babies to life.

And her bet on physical risk paid off.

Malick's Risk and the Leap into Franchises

Working with Terrence Malick is often an act of faith for any performer. In 2019, Bailey joined the cast of The Way of the Wind. It is a project shrouded in absolute secrecy that tells the life of Christ and whose editing process has stretched on for years.

Appearing in Malick's final cut is a coin toss.

The actress balances these auteur projects with her work in major studio productions. In 2023 she was part of the series The Burning Girls for Paramount+. She played Rachel Witard in a rural horror story where the secrets of an English village come to light in the worst way possible.

So her name began to be heard for projects of greater commercial scale. In 2024 she joined the cast of Kraven the Hunter alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Her role was kept under wraps for months to avoid unnecessary leaks about the plot of the Kravinoff family and the Spider-Man villain universe.

Bailey runs her own production company from London. In 2022, she produced the short film Son because she wanted full control over the stories that landed on her desk. Private investment for this project exceeded €50,000 during an early development phase.

Despite her public profile, she keeps a private life away from the film sets. She lives in the United Kingdom with her twin sons and avoids red carpets that have no direct connection to her work. Her contract for the third season of Vikings included a physical exclusivity clause to protect her image during pregnancy.
