Aoi Koga

Aoi Koga didn't become a star overnight. Before winning the Best Actress award at the 14th Seiyu Awards in 2020, she spent a long time voicing nameless characters. Born in Saga Prefecture, she moved to the capital with a clear goal but no real guarantees of survival in the industry.

She got it after a lot of hard work.

In 2014, she made her debut with minor roles in series such as Seitokai Yakuindomo. They weren't roles to brag about. But they taught her how lip-syncing works in the Tokyo studios. Japanese production has zero tolerance for technical mistakes, or for being late in the recording booth.

Kaguya's Aristocratic Coolness

The casting for Kaguya-sama: Love Is War in 2019 was looking for something very specific. They needed a voice that could sound like a wealthy heiress and, at the same time, like a desperate teenager. Koga struck the exact right note. Her performance as Kaguya Shinomiya didn't aim for easy empathy but played with contrasting tones.

Because success in anime depends on knowing how to scream without losing your elegance.

In 2020, the industry recognized her work with the top award for a voice actress. But she didn't stop at school drama. That same year, she lent her voice to Paimon in the video game Genshin Impact and shifted her range toward something much higher. That role gave her a global visibility that anime alone sometimes can't achieve.

Silence and technical growth

Playing Shoko Komi in Komi Can't Communicate was a reverse challenge. In 2021, she had to convey emotions with almost no words (using moans, onomatopoeia and short breaths). Acting is much harder when the script is nearly devoid of long dialogue.

But the video game industry pays better.

In 2023, she joined the cast of Soaring Sky! Precure as Ellee. This project allowed her to break into the children's market, a sector that guarantees massive merchandise sales and unusually stable work.

In 2024, she took part in the production of Mahjong Soul Kan!! and kept her contract active with the Synduality: Noir franchise.
