Ella Rubin

Learning from the Veterans

Ella Rubin was born in New York and grew up immersed in the work-hard culture of the East Coast. In 2014, she made her film debut in the comedy The Rewrite. At thirteen, she shared scenes with Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei in a story about a screenwriter in a rut.

That experience gave her a very early professional understanding of the craft. Rubin realized early on that filmmaking is a technical process and not just an exercise in artistic expression.

Manhattan was her first real stage.

That's because her training is purely theatrical and academic. In 2019, she took part in the Broadway production of The Rose Tattoo. She worked again with Marisa Tomei in a production that demanded constant physical discipline across eight performances a week. That role opened the doors of New York's most demanding casting agencies.

The Transition to Prestige Television

In 2021, she played Lila in the Netflix series The Chair. The production centered on the internal crises of an English literature department at an elite university. Rubin shared scenes with Sandra Oh and proved she could keep up the pace of an intellectual comedy full of rapid-fire dialogue. But she didn't stop there.

In 2021, she also joined the cast of the new version of Gossip Girl for HBO Max. She played Bianca in a series that sought to update the class and power conflicts of the Upper East Side. The show ran for two seasons and gave her massive visibility among young audiences on streaming platforms.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2024, she played Izzy in the Prime Video film The Idea of You. She portrayed the teenage daughter of Anne Hathaway in a plot that explored fame and personal relationships under the scrutiny of social media. It was a production with an estimated budget of seventy million dollars.

Moving into Streaming Films

In 2024, she took part in the Apple TV+ series Masters of the Air. This epic war production, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, recreates the aerial attacks over Nazi Germany. Rubin played Peggy in one of the subplots that humanized the conflict beyond the bomber cockpits.

In 2025, she leads the cast of Fear Street: Prom Queen for Netflix. It is a new installment in the horror franchise based on R.L. Stine's young adult novels. The production aimed to recapture the tone of the 1990s classic slashers to attract the genre's regular subscribers.

Filming of the movie Until Dawn wrapped after eight weeks of production.

The adaptation of the horror video game featured a technical team specializing in motion capture and practical effects. The film's final budget exceeded fifty million dollars before it entered post-production in London.
