Kim Seon-ho isn't your typical talent agency product for teen idols. His training began on the stages of the Seoul Institute of the Arts, where he spent years perfecting his craft before a camera ever noticed him. His professional debut came in 2009 with the stage play New Boeing Boeing.
Theater was his refuge for ten years.
During that time, he took part in stage productions such as Sherlock and True West. He wasn't chasing instant fame, since his priority was control of his body and voice in live performance. So when his first television role came in 2017 in the series Good Manager, he was already thirty years old.
In 2017 he played an accountant in Good Manager, and that supporting role was enough for casting directors to take note of his name. But the real surge in public interest came in 2020. That year he brought Han Ji-pyeong to life in the series Start-Up.
That supporting character stole the spotlight from the main couple and sparked a social media phenomenon that added millions of followers to his personal account in just a few weeks. His name also appeared in every awards prediction list that season. Audiences connected with his ability to convey vulnerability without losing his composure.
In 2021 he starred in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and the series reached massive ratings worldwide. He played a man who took on all kinds of odd jobs in a coastal town. But right at the peak of his popularity, a personal scandal in October 2021 abruptly stopped his momentum.
The forced break forced him to leave variety shows and several lucrative advertising contracts. But the industry doesn't forgive silence. After months away, he returned to the stage in 2022 with the play Touching the Void.
That decision saved him from being forgotten.
In 2023 he made his move into film with The Childe, directed by Park Hoon-jung. In the movie, he played a relentless killer and won the Best New Actor award at the Grand Bell Awards that same year. It was a necessary change of pace to move away from his traditional leading-man image.
Television gave him the face, but film gave him the respect.
In 2024 he reunited with the same director for the action series The Tyrant. By 2025, his schedule included the project Can This Love Be Translated?, written by the Hong sisters. Filming for this international production took place across various locations in Japan and South Korea.
