Lili Simmons was born in San Diego but grew up under the Hawaiian sun. There, a talent scout discovered her while she was surfing and launched her into the fashion world before she turned fifteen. It was a period of catalog shoots and constant travel that ended when she decided that posing in front of a camera wasn't enough.
She moved to Los Angeles with a firm determination to act.
In 2013, she landed the role of Rebecca Bowman in the series Banshee. She played a young woman from an Amish community who hid a double life marked by rebellion and violence. That Cinemax production was not subtle, but Simmons made her character the emotional center of many storylines over four seasons.
And the gamble paid off.
The actress performed physically demanding stunts without doubles in several action sequences. In 2014, she balanced this work with a brief appearance in True Detective, where she played Beth. That scene with Woody Harrelson lasted only a few minutes but helped casting directors start noticing her beyond conventional cable television.
Her move into film came with Bone Tomahawk in 2015. In this cult film, she shared the screen with Kurt Russell and Patrick Wilson under the direction of S. Craig Zahler. The movie had a tight budget of 1.8 million dollars and was shot in just 21 days in California. Simmons played Samantha O'Dwyer, the driving force behind the story's frantic search.
But the pace of the industry isn't always steady.
Between 2016 and 2018, she appeared in Westworld, bringing to life the new version of Clementine Pennyfeather. It was a technical, cold role that required absolute restraint opposite the leads. Around the same time, she joined the cast of Ray Donovan for season five as Natalie James, a character dealing with press harassment and the protection of the lead.
In 2022, she joined Power Book IV: Force as Claudia Flynn. The series is set in Chicago and explores power struggles in the drug trade from the perspective of crime families. Simmons plays the daughter of a mob boss who tries to build her own synthetic drug empire without asking her father's permission.
It's a long-running role.
Production of the second season in 2023 secured her presence in the franchise led by Joseph Sikora. For this project, she worked with a vocal coach to adjust certain nuances of her original California accent and adapt it to the harshness of the Chicago setting. The script demanded a physical transformation that included armored high-fashion wardrobe to reflect her social status.
In 2024, she took part in the shoot of the independent thriller Year 2. The film had an eight-month post-production process focused on the creatures' digital effects and a sound design fully produced in London studios.
