Marc Bendavid was born in Toronto in 1982 and grew up in an environment shaped by a mix of Moroccan and Belgian roots. His training at the National Theatre School of Canada shaped his view of acting as a technical craft. In 2004, he finished his studies and began working on stage before the camera claimed him for good.
His debut before an audience did not happen in a television studio. He performed Shakespearean roles and took part in plays such as The Madonna Painter at Factory Theatre in Toronto. This stage period allowed him to develop a restrained physical presence that he later applied to his work for the small screen.
Theater remains his occasional refuge.
In 2007, he landed his first television role in the series Air Crash Investigation. It was a brief appearance, but it got casting directors in the Canadian industry to start noting his name. In the following years, he worked steadily in productions such as Murdoch Mysteries and Degrassi.
In 2008, he appeared in the miniseries Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning, playing the younger version of Dominic Blythe. That project was his first real exposure to large audiences beyond Canada's borders.
In 2015, the project that changed his international profile arrived. He joined the main cast of Dark Matter to bring Jace Corso to life. The science fiction series built a complex game of identities, with characters waking up on a ship without remembering who they were. Bendavid had to handle a character with a double face that demanded absolute coolness on screen.
But his character's fate was sealed in the writers' room. Despite being one of the main faces in the promotional materials, his exit from the series came much sooner than viewers expected. The script dictated his early departure to create a narrative shock that fans still debate on specialized forums today.
Television does not always offer second chances.
After his time in outer space, the actor decided to diversify his range. In 2017, he joined the cast of How to Buy a Baby, and soon after landed in the production Good Witch. In the latter, he played Mayor Donovan Davenport for several seasons and showed a much friendlier, more down-to-earth side.
Many actors avoid seasonal romance films for fear of being typecast, but Bendavid embraced them with professional pragmatism. In 2020, he starred in A Christmas Exchange and The Wedding Planner. These productions are known for extremely fast shoots that demand flawless memorization of lines and a lot of agility on set.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2022, he worked on the movie Reindeer Games Homecoming for the Lifetime network. On projects like this, actors usually shoot all their scenes in under two weeks. Efficiency on set is a valued trait in North America's current entertainment industry.
Contracts for this type of television production usually include immediate availability clauses for audio post-production sessions. Marc Bendavid keeps his residence in Canada and divides his time between the Toronto studios and filming locations in the United States. The average budget of his recent television movies ranges from two to five million dollars per project.
