Miguel Bernardeau grew up on television sets, but chose to study acting more than nine thousand kilometers from home. In Los Angeles, he attended classes at Santa Monica College and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, seeking a technical discipline apart from his family name.

His first official job in front of the camera was limited to a brief appearance in an episode of 2016 of Cuéntame cómo pasó. That day he shared the frame with his mother in a scene lasting barely two minutes.

A year later, he made his commercial film debut in the comedy Es por tu bien (2017), directed by Carlos Therón. That supporting role was followed by the series Sabuesos and the feature film Ola de crímenes (2018), in which Gracia Querejeta cast him as a deranged teenager.

The School Uniform and the Trap of the Archetype

In fall 2018, the premiere of Elite shook up TV ratings in Spain. Bernardeau played Guzmán Nunier, a privileged student with an aggressive streak who gave him instant visibility in more than one hundred ninety countries.

For four seasons, he carried the label of the troubled bad boy at a private high school.

And typecasting threatened to swallow everything. His departure from the cast in 2021, after four batches of episodes, reflected a need to seek out more understated roles. Because nobody wanted to get stuck in the halls of a fictional high school. That same year, he premiered the prison drama Josefina alongside Emma Suárez, a restrained project with barely three lines of dialogue per scene.

International Shipwrecks and a Custom-Made Masked Hero

His European breakthrough came in 2022 with 1899, the period drama created by German filmmakers Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese for Netflix. Bernardeau shot in English and Spanish on a state-of-the-art virtual volume set, playing a mysterious Spanish stowaway.

But the algorithm rules.

The company canceled the series after just one season despite amassing more than two hundred fifty million viewing hours in its first four weeks. The blow exposed how fragile global productions can be. Months later, he led the five-episode miniseries The Last (2022) alongside singer Aitana, playing an amateur boxer.

In 2024, he took on the mask of Diego de la Vega in Zorro, a ten-episode serialized drama produced for Prime Video and Televisión Española. Filming in Gran Canaria required months of sword and classical horsemanship training so he could forgo stunt doubles in close-up shots.

A Turn Toward Sober Drama

His critical breakthrough came in fall 2024 with the miniseries Querer, created by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa. His portrayal of Aitor Gorosmendi, the eldest son caught up in the sexual assault complaint his mother files against his father, earned him a nomination for the Feroz Awards for Best Supporting Actor.

Ruiz de Azúa stripped away any trace of physical artifice from his performance.

In 2025 he took on the lead role in Terra Alta, the TV adaptation of Javier Cercas's crime novel for Movistar Plus+, playing Agent Melchor Marín. Shortly after, he finished filming La fiera (2026), centered on BASE jumper Armando del Rey, and his part in La Bola Negra (2026), directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi.

In this latest project, he plays Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, romantic partner of Federico García Lorca, a shoot filmed on Castilian locations with subzero temperatures and a closed industrial budget of four million euros.
