Miles Jupp is no aristocrat, despite his accent suggesting otherwise. He was born in London in 1979 and trained on the Edinburgh stage while studying Divinity. His first big break was Balamory in 2002, where he played Archie, an eccentric inventor dressed in pink who won him instant fame with preschool audiences.
But Jupp was after something else.
In 2009 he joined the cast of The Thick of It as John Duggan. It was a complete change of gear. He went from childlike sweetness to the wildest political satire on British television. His character was an incompetent, exasperating adviser, which suited his talent for seeming a man overwhelmed by circumstances.
That mix of awkwardness and elegance helped him break into mainstream movies. In 2011 he appeared in Johnny English Reborn and shortly after in The Monuments Men, directed by George Clooney. He didn't chase the spotlight, preferring the supporting role that steals the scene with a single dry line.
And the gamble paid off.
Life gave him a serious warning in 2021. While filming a series, he fainted, and the episode led to a diagnosis of a brain tumor. He underwent emergency surgery and spent months in slow recovery, which changed the way he understood his work. That experience became the basis for his show On I've Had It Up To Here, which toured across the United Kingdom.
In 2023, Ridley Scott called him for Napoleon. Jupp played Emperor Francis I of Austria in a production with a budget of 200 million dollars. It was a shoot of immense technical scale that contrasted with his beginnings in low-budget alternative theater.
Because Miles Jupp can move from a historical blockbuster to a television series without breaking a sweat. In 2024 he joined the cast of The Gentlemen, the television adaptation of Guy Ritchie. There he once again exploited the upper-class persona he knows so well, but always with a touch of irony that avoids cliché.
The reality was different.
That same year he premiered Belgravia: The Next Chapter and appeared in the film The Radleys. His schedule filled up with commitments that he balanced with his work as a writer. His book Fibber in the Heat had already shown that his interest in cricket was nearly as strong as his rejection of conventional narrative structures.
Filming of The Radleys took place across various locations in London and its surroundings, with a production crew of more than one hundred people.
