Nicki Aycox was born in Hennessey, a small town in Oklahoma, in 1975. Long before she stood in front of a camera, she was playing piano in state competitions with almost military discipline. That musical training helped her endure the first years of systematic rejection at Los Angeles auditions.
In 1996, she landed her first episodic role on the series Weird Science.
It was a quiet but steady start. In the late nineties, she moved from L.A. Heat to Cruel Justice without making much media noise or generating major headlines. But genre cinema came knocking in 2003 with Jeepers Creepers 2. She played Minxie Hayes, and the box office responded with more than $63 million in worldwide gross.
That horror film permanently changed her status in the industry.
Then came the project that cemented her place in the memory of dark fantasy fans. In 2006, she joined Supernatural to bring Meg Masters to life. It was no easy role, since she had to be both threatening and magnetic at once. Aycox built a villain who didn't need to scream to be frightening.
She played Meg during the first and fourth seasons of the series.
But her career wasn't limited to demons. In 2009, she joined the cast of Dark Blue alongside Dylan McDermott. She worked on all twenty episodes of the series, playing Jaimie Allen, an undercover cop with a turbulent past. The shoot demanded serious physical toughness, which she embraced, doing most of the action scenes without stunt doubles.
Aycox never abandoned her classical training. In 2015, she released her first record, the EP Red Velvet Room. It featured five songs blending blues with raw rock. The release wasn't aimed at topping the charts but at closing a personal chapter that had begun in her childhood.
Hollywood tends to forget quickly those who step away from the spotlight.
She chose to focus on healthy living and cooking after voluntarily stepping away from television sets. In 2020, she began documenting her lifestyle on social media with a very pragmatic approach. But in 2021, she received a leukemia diagnosis that put an end to any plans to return to acting professionally.
The treatment was aggressive, and she shared it with blunt honesty. She underwent chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant at a hospital in California. Despite medical efforts, her condition deteriorated sharply during the second half of 2022.
Nicki Aycox passed away on November 16, 2022, at the age of 47.
Her last appearance on the big screen was in the movie Dead on Campus, released in 2014. The actors' union recorded her death in social security reports weeks after the funeral. Her net worth at death was estimated at two million dollars, derived from her image rights and real estate holdings.
