Nicole Prescovia Elikolani Valiente was born in Honolulu with a last name that wasn't hers and an ambition too big for the Hawaiian islands. Her first real contact with the entertainment industry came in 2001 on the reality show Popstars. There she was part of Eden’s Crush, a manufactured group that lasted about as long as a breath on American radio charts.
And that was only the dress rehearsal.
Before turning twenty-five, she agreed to join a project that aimed to turn a Los Angeles burlesque show into a dollar-making machine. In 2003, she joined the Pussycat Dolls under the guidance of Jimmy Iovine. The deal was simple but cruel to the other members, because Nicole recorded almost all the lead vocals while the rest sang backup or just danced.
The group sold 15 million copies of its debut album, released in 2005. But life inside the group was a minefield over Scherzinger's absolute spotlight. Tensions blew the lineup apart in 2010 after an exhausting tour that left the singer searching for her own identity outside the group brand.
She tried to launch a solo career with the album Killer Love in 2011. The album did well in the UK with powerful singles but went unnoticed in the US market. That commercial setback led her to seek refuge in commercial television as a judge on The X Factor and The Masked Singer.
They were easy jobs that paid the bills.
Scherzinger realized her voice was too big for the synthetic pop radio was demanding at the time. In 2014, she accepted the role of Grizabella in the musical Cats in London's West End. British critics had to bow to her performance of the song Memory, and Andrew Lloyd Webber found in her a performer capable of carrying high-risk productions.
In 2023, she returned to the stage to play Norma Desmond in a minimalist version of Sunset Boulevard directed by Jamie Lloyd. The production dropped the lavish Hollywood sets in favor of live video cameras and basic costumes. She won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in 2024 for this work in London.
The gamble paid off.
But the real test came with the show's move to the St. James Theatre on Broadway at the end of 2024. There, Scherzinger proved she could lead a three-hour show with nothing but her physical presence on stage. In 2025, her name was linked to new film productions that aimed to exploit her dramatic abilities beyond commercial pop.
Her salary for the 2024 season at the London theater was among the highest in West End history for a leading actress. The Broadway contract in 2025 included an exclusivity clause that barred her from appearing on television shows during six months of performances.
