Ruth Bradley dropped out of Trinity College Dublin three weeks after enrolling. She was eighteen and had a supporting role in The Clinic during that 2003. Her mother was actress Charlotte Bradley, and young Ruth preferred hands-on learning on set to academic theory.
It was an irreversible decision.
In 2006, the Irish film industry recognized her instinct by awarding her an IFTA for her role in Stardust. That miniseries recounted the nightclub fire of 1981, and Bradley played one of the victims with a composure unusual for her age. But the local market soon felt too small for her, and she decided to move to London in search of bigger-budget projects.
Most actors go for over-the-top emotion to stand out. Bradley did the opposite in 2015 when she accepted the role of Karen Voss in the science fiction series Humans. She played a police inspector hiding her synthetic nature, which required her to exercise absolute physical control.
The production banned blinking during long takes to keep the robot convincing. Bradley trained with choreographers to erase any trace of human body language. And the effort paid off, because the series stayed on air until 2018 with a strong global audience.
But it wasn't all tech drama.
In 2012, she starred in Grabbers, a horror comedy in which aliens attack an Irish island. The script required her character to be drunk in order to survive the creatures' attack. The film grossed just 1.5 million dollars at the box office but became a cult favorite at European genre festivals.
Starting in 2019, her career entered a phase of technical maturity in British television. She joined Guilt playing Angie Curtis in a dark comedy set in Edinburgh. Bradley proved she could handle fast, sharp dialogue without losing the naturalness that contemporary productions demand.
In 2023, she joined the cast of The Gold. This BBC drama recreated the Brink's-Mat robbery that took place in 1983, in which gold bars valued at 26 million pounds disappeared. She played Isabelle Cooper and worked under director Aneil Karia on a shoot that lasted six months across locations in London and Kent.
And the run of big productions continued.
In 2024, she joined the fourth season of Slow Horses for Apple TV+. She shared scenes with Gary Oldman in a story about corporate espionage and disgraced MI5 agents. The series' confidentiality agreement kept details of her character under wraps until the very day the episodes premiered.
The actress usually lives in south London. In 2024, she balances her on-screen work with reading scripts for an independent Irish production company. Filming for her most recent British TV appearance wrapped in March of that same year after twelve weeks of intensive shooting.
