Julian Fellowes's Eye

Julian Fellowes discovered her in a school play in 1996. He wasn't looking for a star, but he found a sixteen-year-old girl who commanded the stage effortlessly. That earned her first professional role in the miniseries The Prince and the Pauper before she finished high school.

That changed her destiny forever.

In 1999, she appeared in Mansfield Park and shortly afterward filmed Oliver Twist for British television. Her pale complexion and a gaze that seemed to hold secrets made her a good fit for period drama. But Myles didn't want to be limited to bonnets and corsets of the nineteenth century.

In 2001, she had a small role in From Hell alongside Johnny Depp. It was her first taste of major studio productions and the start of a shift toward darker characters, because her ability to convey vulnerability and strength at the same time caught attention in Los Angeles.

Vampires and the American Market

Her big breakthrough came in 2003 with Underworld. She played Erika, an ambitious vampire who sought to climb the ranks in a world of rigid hierarchies. The film grossed more than 95 million dollars worldwide and gave her a visibility that British independent cinema could not offer.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2004, she took on the role of Lady Penelope in the live-action version of Thunderbirds. Although the film did not meet box office expectations, it cemented her as a face recognizable to the general public. But the role that would define her status as a leading lead came in 2006 with Tristan + Isolde.

She shot this epic story alongside James Franco under Ridley Scott's production. The chemistry between the two actors drove a film that aimed for a rawer tone than previous versions of the myth. Her name soon began to rise as a strong contender to lead high-budget television projects.

In 2007, she moved to Los Angeles to star in Moonlight. She played Beth Turner in a series that blended crime drama with supernatural romance. Despite having a very loyal fan base, CBS canceled the show after 16 episodes due to the writers' strike.

Refuge in British Fiction

After wrapping her American chapter, she returned to London to join the cast of Spooks in 2010. She played Beth Bailey during the ninth season of this BBC espionage drama. It was a necessary change of pace that moved her away from fantasy and into the gritty realism of state intelligence.

But big-screen blockbusters came knocking again in 2014. Michael Bay cast her in Transformers: Age of Extinction, where she played geologist Darcy Tirrel. The film earned more than 1,100 million dollars at the global box office, becoming the most commercially successful project of her career.

Her pace of work became more selective over the years. In 2021, she took part in the miniseries A Very British Scandal alongside Claire Foy and Paul Bettany. The production explored the divorce of the Dukes of Argyll, and Myles brought the restraint needed in a high-tension aristocratic setting.

The loss of her father in 2020 to the pandemic deeply affected her view of the industry. She turned to documenting the family experience and cut back on public appearances to focus on projects with greater emotional weight. In 2023, she shot the feature film All That Glitters under the direction of Peter S. Seaman.

In 2024, she finished filming the thriller Firecracker in the United Kingdom.
