From Hell

Inspector Frederick G. Abberline, played by Johnny Depp, is assigned to investigate a series of murders of prostitutes in Whitechapel, the most squalid neighborhood in London. There, misery, disease and drugs are part of everyday life. Abberline wants to find the culprit and relies on the help of his friend, Sergeant Godley, with whom he reviews every crime and every clue. However, his superiors would rather have the case forgotten as soon as possible and put obstacles in his way at every step. Meanwhile, a group of women struggling to get by in the district begins to sense that a predator is lurking in the dark streets, and the inspector is the only one who seems willing to protect them. Directed by the Hughes Brothers, the film opens with that tension between the pursuit of truth and the silence of those in power.
