Trivia about Blair Witch

The Blair Witch house was not shot in the forest. The crew rebuilt it entirely on a sound stage, and the scenes set inside it were filmed there.

During filming, the movie was called The Woods, a fake title that concealed its connection to the franchise. Its real title was not revealed until Comic-Con in San Diego in 2016.

The production budget was $5 million, but promotion, advertising, and marketing added another $20 million.

On its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, it earned $9.7 million, below expectations and the worst opening of the franchise.

Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave it an average grade of D+ on a scale from A+ to F, one of the lowest ratings of its year.

At Sundance, Wingard and Barrett met Eduardo Sánchez, co-founder of The Blair Witch Project, while promoting V/H/S/2, and asked him why there were no more films in the franchise.

To keep the project secret during filming in Vancouver, the actors received only revised scripts and did not know what film they were making until they were officially hired; filming lasted 34 days.

Wes Robinson, who plays Lane, shot much of his own footage with the vintage Sony camera that appears within the film, rather than just acting in front of it.
