Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan Sagdiyev, an eccentric Kazakh journalist, receives an assignment from his government. The Kazakh Ministry of Information sends him to the United States to shoot a documentary about the country's society and culture. Before leaving, he leaves behind his wife, Oksana, and sets out on the trip accompanied by his producer, Azamat Bagatov, and a hen he keeps as a pet. His destination is what Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan calls the "greatest country in the world," where he intends to gather lessons his nation could benefit from. On paper, the assignment seems simple, though the reporter has a very particular idea of how a documentary should be shot and how the people he meets should behave. Directed by Larry Charles and starring Sacha Baron Cohen, the film opens with this journey, which the protagonist begins convinced he is doing serious work.
