Do you know what it feels like to lose everything?

Carlos is a banking executive whose morning starts like any other: he drives his children, Sara and Marcos, to school. Just as he pulls away, a cell phone someone left inside the car starts ringing. An anonymous voice tells him there is a bomb under his seat and that it will explode if he or any of the passengers stands up. Retribution demands that he raise a large sum of money within a few hours. If he fails, the car will be blown into the air. The film is directed by Dani de la Torre and stars Luis Tosar as Carlos. Carlos must decide what to do with the time he has left, while his children remain seated beside him.

Trivia about Retribution

The film has versions and adaptations in other countries: a German version from 2018 titled Número desconocido, an international co-production called Retribution, and a South Korean adaptation from 2021 titled Amenaza explosiva.

It had its world premiere at the 2015 Venice Film Festival, where it screened as the opening film of the Giornate degli autori parallel section.

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter called it "Locke meets Speed, bypassing originality and plausibility" after seeing it in Venice.

It won two Goya Awards at the 2016 ceremony, for Best Editing and Best Sound, as well as several Mestre Mateo Awards in 2015.

The shoot took place entirely in A Coruña during the summer of 2014 and had a budget of four million euros.

Dani de la Torre tried to shoot the film in sequence, but the restrictions required to close streets forced some scenes to be filmed out of order.

Its television premiere on Antena 3 drew 1,942,000 viewers and a 11.4% audience share.

In March 2025, the film was available in Spain on Prime Video, Movistar Plus+, and SkyShowtime.
