Synopsis of The Asunta Case

Santiago de Compostela, September 2013. Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra, played by Candela Peña and Tristán Ulloa, go to report the disappearance of their daughter Asunta on September 21. Hours later, the girl's body is found along a road on the outskirts of the city. The police investigation uncovers evidence pointing to the parents as possible perpetrators of the crime, and the case begins to shock the city and the country. The miniseries, created by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira, Jon de la Cuesta and David Orea, follows that investigation from day one and asks how far the facts can be proven in a case that is so heavily covered by the media.

Trivia about The Asunta Case

After the earlier documentary, producer Ramón Campos received new testimony from people who didn't want to appear on camera, which led him to propose a fictionalized series.

Candela Peña was offered a role as an agent, but she asked to audition as Rosario Porto and ended up convincing the producers.

The production team chose not to film at Asunta's apartment or at the country house where she was murdered, according to the series' production notes.

Many members of the crew were Galician and had previously worked on Fariña.

Bambú Producciones had already brought the case to the screen in 2017 with the documentary Lo que la verdad esconde, aired on Antena 3.

Hobby Consolas gave the series a 80 out of 100 and praised Peña's performance in particular.

In its first three days, the series accumulated 29.4 million hours viewed and 5.4 million viewers on Netflix, making it the most-watched non-English production on the platform that week.

«The Asunta Case» received five nominations at the 2024 Iris Awards, including Best Fiction, Best Actress for Candela Peña, and Best Directing for Fiction for Carlos Sedes and Jacobo Martínez.
