Rwanda, 1994. Paul Rusesabagina is the manager of the Hôtel des Mille Collines, a Belgian-owned hotel in Kigali, the capital. Paul is Hutu, but he lives with Tatiana, his Tutsi wife, in a country where the two ethnic groups coexist under growing tension. Only a few hours remain before the signing of a UN-backed peace agreement between Hutus and Tutsis, and the atmosphere seems calm. However, small incidents begin to disrupt the city's routine. On the radio, Hutu soldiers incite people to wipe out the Tutsis, whom they describe as a plague. Paul tries to keep his hotel running as unrest grows in the streets. Terry George directs the film, and Don Cheadle plays Paul, with Sophie Okonedo as Tatiana.
