Kika is a cheerful, optimistic makeup artist who works in Madrid. One afternoon, she receives a call from Nicholas Pierce, an American writer, who asks her for an unusual job: to do the makeup on a dead man. The deceased is named Ramón and is an attractive photographer. Kika arrives at the designated location with her crew, ready to take on the job as if it were any other. What seems like a simple task starts to get complicated as soon as she steps into the house. Pedro Almodóvar wrote the screenplay and directed this black comedy, in which Verónica Forqué plays the lead alongside Victoria Abril, Peter Coyote and Rossy de Palma.

Trivia about Kika

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer included the film on its list of the ten worst movies of 1994.

The soundtrack features Perez Prado's "Concierto para Bongó," which plays during several scenes, including a car chase and the self-flagellation scenes of Picao.

Verónica Forqué won the Goya Award for Best Actress for her performance as Kika, becoming the second lead actress in an Almodóvar film to achieve this.

Madrid landmarks such as the Torre Picasso, the Torre Europa and Atocha Station appear in the film, and exteriors were shot in the town of Los Santos de la Humosa.

"Kika" had a budget of 700 million pesetas and the longest shoot of any of Pedro Almodóvar's films up to that point.

The film received eight Goya Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Rossy de Palma and Best Production Design for Esther García.

Rossy de Palma recalled that one scene was shot at the end of summer, during an especially cold night, and that the shoot followed a different order than the story.

In 1994, "Kika" won the Audience Award for Best Spanish Film at the Sant Jordi Awards, and Victoria Abril and Rossy de Palma also each received ACE Awards for their performances.
