Roy Waller is a small-time con artist who lives in Los Angeles. He suffers from agoraphobia and several compulsive habits he barely manages to control, and he has almost no contact with anyone apart from Frank, his partner, with whom he sells water filtration systems to gullible clients. His routine is strict: he cleans nonstop, smokes constantly, and leaves the house only when he has no other choice. One day, an accident sends the pill bottle that keeps his symptoms in check down the kitchen drain. Without medication, Roy needs a doctor to renew his prescription, but the psychiatrist who used to provide it has left town. Frank recommends another specialist. Roy, reluctant to talk about his life, agrees to the appointment with a single goal: getting the pills.
