Synopsis of Love & Death

Wylie, Texas, 1980. Candy Montgomery is a housewife who follows the traditional way of life in her community: husband, children, and an intense church life. Her closest circle includes Betty and Allan Gore, a neighboring married couple and friends with whom she shares time and confidences. That apparent stability begins to crack when Candy starts an affair with Allan, a relationship she keeps hidden and that threatens to destroy both families. Based on a real crime, the series focuses on the consequences of that double life and on what an seemingly ordinary woman is willing to do to protect what she considers her own.

Filming took place mainly on a soundstage in Kyle, Texas, from September 27, 2021 to April 7, 2022. Exterior locations were shot in Austin and nearby towns.
At the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, Jesse Plemons was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The series received generally positive reviews.
Variety found the series well made but not very original, and compared it with Candy, the Hulu series released in 2022 about the same case.

"Love & Death" received nominations for Best Limited Series at the Critics Choice Television Awards and Best International Program at the 2023 British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA).
The series earned a Best Actress in a Limited Series nomination for Elizabeth Olsen at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
The first episode features a performance of "Hallelujah" set in 1978, although the version associated with Milk and Honey was released and won Eurovision in 1979.
