Synopsis of Queer as Folk

In Pittsburgh, a group of gay friends ends a night at the Babylon club. Brian leaves with Justin, a 17-year-old who has just come out and who, after that encounter, begins to fall in love with him. Michael, who has feelings for Brian that aren't returned, narrates from time to time. That same night, Brian also becomes a father after conceiving a child with Lindsay through artificial insemination. Lindsay and her partner, Melanie, are part of the circle, as are Emmett, Ted and Debbie, Michael's mother. While trying to fit in with homophobic classmates and parents who are divorcing, Justin relies on Daphne, his straight friend. The series, created by Daniel Lipman and Ron Cowen and aired on Showtime, follows this group and the effects that Brian and Justin's romance has on all of them.

Trivia about Queer as Folk

Although it is set in Pittsburgh, much of the series was filmed in Toronto, with several Canadian directors known for their independent film work.
Gale Harold and Scott Lowell said at a 2015 meeting that they refused to talk about their sexuality in the press during the first season.
In Israel, the series was renamed due to language issues, and the new title roughly means "Be as proud as you can."
In Greece, Star Channel had to stop airing the first season despite having a large audience.
Croatia never aired the series, although the Croatian LGBT community organized a campaign on 2003/04 to that end.
Showtime renewed the series for a second season and expanded the initial order to 22 episodes with 20 more, after averaging roughly 1.2 million viewers and peaks close to 1.63 million.
The series earned six GLAAD Media Award nominations and won once in the best drama category.
The continuation that premiered on Peacock in 2022, set in New Orleans and conceived as a new take on the property, was canceled after a single season.
