Thirty years after a nuclear war, Eli travels on foot across a toxic, gray, nearly scorched desert toward the west coast of the former United States. He is a lone traveler carrying a copy of a mysterious book with one mission: to bring it to a safe place. The road is full of danger. Highwaymen ambush him, and he defeats them with astonishing ease, while the scarcity of food forces him to hunt the little wildlife that remains. Eli moves forward with caution, never straying from his path, aware that his cargo attracts the interest of those who want it for themselves. The film is directed by the Hughes brothers and stars Denzel Washington as the lead.

[Repeated line] Stay on the path. It's not your concern.
[repeated line] Read it!
[To Eli] Have you ever thought that maybe you were lost?
I can't imagine what it must feel like, having what you want so close, and it might as well be a million miles away.
[about Eli] It's like he's protected somehow, like there's nothing that can touch him.
We lost a lot of men. You need me more than ever. Now, you say that book's worth the trouble. Well, I believe you, but I want Solara for it.
