Some call it organized crime, others call it family.

Fred Blake is a retired mobster who lives with his family in Normandy, France, under an FBI witness protection program. Trivia about The Family

The dog that plays The Family, the family's pet, is named Emeron and was trained by a specialist. De Niro was, along with the trainer, the only person who spent time with him during training.

Besson auditioned more than 500 actors for the role of Warren Blake before choosing John D'Leo.

Besson was going to be only a producer, but when he learned he would be working with Robert De Niro and could not find a suitable director, he decided to direct it himself.

Besson always had Dianna Agron in mind when writing the character of Belle Blake, but she had to go through several auditions before landing the role. The entire cast and crew of Glee supported her decision to leave the series to take part.

In its opening weekend, the movie debuted in second place at the box office with $14 million, behind Insidious: Chapter 2, which earned $40.3 million.

Filming began on August 8, 2012 and wrapped on October 27; in addition to Normandy and New York, it included a month of work at the Cité du Cinéma in Saint-Denis.

To turn the Jean Moulin collège in Gacé into the movie's Jules Vallès high school, the production used a real school, even though the lycée Jules Vallès doesn't exist.

The Family is based on the novel The Family by Tonino Benacquista, and the original title matches the name of the family's pet in the book.
