Live or Die This Day

John Ottway is a sharpshooter at an isolated oil rig in Alaska. His job is to shoot the gray wolves that approach the workers, and he does it with a coldness that has become routine. Ottway is deeply grieving the death of his wife, a loss that has left him devastated. Today is his last day at the site, and he arrives there intending to take his own life. Liam Neeson stars as this lead character in a film directed by Joe Carnahan, which alternates the icy stillness of the camp with the constant threat of the animals surrounding the area.

Trivia about The Grey

Bradley Cooper, who had already worked with Carnahan on The A-Team, was chosen for the lead role, but was eventually replaced by Liam Neeson.

Although the story takes place in Alaska, filming took place in Smithers, where several scenes were shot at its airport.

According to The Province, the crew bought four wolf carcasses from a local hunter: two to be used as props in the film and two to be eaten by the cast.

With a budget of $25 million, the film went on to gross $81.2 million worldwide.

Open Road Films used critics' comments on Twitter in its third trailer, something that had never been done before with a movie trailer.

Filming lasted 40 days, and temperatures dropped to -40 °C during the first week; Joe Carnahan and Dallas Roberts suffered frostbite, and the crew had to use radio receivers because the speakers froze.

The storms and snow in the film were real, with no computer-generated weather; Liam Neeson explained that filming in Smithers reached temperatures of 30 degrees below zero.

To recreate the movements of the wolves, the team built structures based on motion capture of real animals and used that data to develop the digital animation.

Quotes by The Grey

A job at the end of the world. A salaried killer for a big petroleum company. I don't know why I did half the things I've done, but I know this is where I belong, surrounded by my own. Ex-cons, fugitives, drifters, assholes. Men unfit for mankind.
You fuckin' guys with your rules and your orders and bullshit. Where are we? Look around! This is fuck city. Population five and dwindling.
Hey, guys, don't do that put your head between your knees crap if this plane crashes.
Help, hang on in a minute
No, It's a True Story
That reminds me of My Childhood
