Synopsis of Devilman Crybaby

Akira Fudo is a high school student who lives with Miki Makimura, his only friend and lifelong love. When he tries to defend her from a gang led by rapper Wamu, he is rescued by Ryo Asuka, his childhood friend, who has just returned from an expedition to the Amazon. Ryo assures him that he discovered the existence of demons there and that world governments are hiding them. Determined to expose them, he takes Akira to the Sabbath party in an underground nightclub, where Ryo attacks the attendees with a broken bottle and the demons begin to appear. Set in the 21st century, the series follows the two friends as an ancient race of demons threatens to destroy humanity. Directed by Masaaki Yuasa and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi, it streams on Netflix.

Trivia about Devilman Crybaby

Allegra Frank of Polygon, along with other critics, called the series a "masterpiece." That assessment is among the responses from the specialized press.
The series received the "Anime of the Year" award at the 3rd Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and Masaaki Yuasa won the award for Best Director.
Rapper Ken the 390 voiced the character Wamu in the Japanese version and supervised the rap sequences in the series.
Between May and June 2018, the Japanese music store chain Tower Records hosted an exhibition of the series called Sabbath Shibuya.
The Japanese Blu-ray edition was the eleventh best-selling product in its format and sold at least 2,637 copies in its release week.
In an interview from 2019, Masaaki Yuasa said he would direct a sequel to "Devilman Crybaby" if he had the necessary opportunity and time, although he did not announce any specific project.
Yuasa explained that he chose to portray the series' young people as rappers because, in his view, they express what people think today better than other groups do.
The series was distributed worldwide in 190 countries and arrived with dubbing in nine languages and subtitles in 25, according to production information released before its premiere.
