Synopsis of DARLING in the FRANXX

Humanity lives confined in the Plantations, mobile fortresses that move across a devastated world in the 22nd century, while the surface of the planet is left in the hands of the Klaxosaurs, giant creatures with a robotic appearance that seem determined to destroy it. To defend themselves, adults have created the FRANXX, mechas that can only be piloted by pairs made up of a boy and a girl, physically and mentally synchronized. The protagonists are teenagers called "Parasites," trained to fill that role with barely any idea of what happens beyond their walls. Among them stand out Hiro, a former prodigy, and Zero Two, a mysterious horned girl who aspires to become fully human. Directed by Atsushi Nishigori, the series airs on Tokyo MX and presents a constant conflict: learning to pilot in time to defend what remains of civilization.

Trivia about DARLING in the FRANXX

Director Atsushi Nishigori chose Yūto Uemura to voice Hiro because he loved his tone of voice, and he was very pleased when he heard him performing the character.
When the series was being conceived, Nishigori was approaching forty and felt dissatisfied with his career, so he gathered the best animators he knew to create a show with them.
The opening theme, "Kiss of Death," is performed by Mika Nakashima and composed by Hyde.
At the 2018 Newtype Anime Awards, Shigeto Koyama won the award for Best Mecha Design, while Zero Two and the series were runners-up for Best Female Character and Best TV Anime.
Mechanical designer Shigeto Koyama gave the mechas a feminine look because, together with Imaishi, he noticed that Nishigori was more interested in idols than in robots.
The press harshly criticized the series for its heavy sexual content, a reason that led to its ban in China.
The four-panel spin-off manga, created by Mato, ended in July 2018 after 73 chapters and was later collected into a full-color printed volume.
