Brian Bloom was thirteen when Sergio Leone put him in front of the camera in Once Upon a Time in America. He played Patsy, one of the boys in a teen gangster crew in a suffocating New York. That 1984 experience shaped his relationship with the craft of filmmaking. It was no child's play.
He won an Emmy before he could drive a car.
In 1985, he earned this honor for his role as Dusty Donovan in the soap opera As the World Turns. He was the youngest actor to win this award in the daytime drama category. But early awards can be glass traps. Throughout the nineties, his face filled teenage bedroom walls while he searched for projects that didn't rely on his square jaw.
The industry quickly typecast him in TV movies and brief appearances in action series. But Bloom decided that if the roles he wanted weren't coming, he would write them himself. He began collaborating with director Joe Carnahan. Together, they developed a rawer, less artificial vision of action movies than the Hollywood norm.
In 2010, he made his big break with the film adaptation of The A-Team. He didn't just play mercenary Brock Pike. Bloom also co-wrote the screenplay with Carnahan and Skip Woods. It was a 110 million dollar bet that changed his standing in Los Angeles studio offices.
And the gamble paid off.
Writing allowed him to take control of his own story. He no longer depended on auditions to survive. But the most radical change didn't happen in front of a movie camera or in a writers' room. It happened in a soundproof recording booth.
Many viewers wouldn't recognize Bloom on the street, but they would identify his voice in under three seconds. He is the man behind B.J. Blazkowicz in the Wolfenstein franchise since 2014. He also provides vocal performances for characters in Dragon Age and Mass Effect. The video game world gave him the stability that film had denied him.
In 2019, he became a key part of the Call of Duty franchise. He didn't stop at voicing Captain America in Marvel games. Bloom took on creative leadership roles in developing storylines for the Modern Warfare saga. It's technical work that involves coordinating hundreds of voice actors and motion capture specialists.
His commitment to the industry is total.
In 2022, he worked on the narrative design of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. He personally oversaw the consistency of tactical dialogue during combat sequences. The process demands real military knowledge and near-surgical precision in language.
In 2023, he finished his writing work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The project involved a development team of more than three thousand people spread across the globe.
