The voice nobody saw

The industry first knew her for a childlike voice asking for stuffed unicorns. She was seven years old when she voiced Agnes in Despicable Me and repeated the role in the sequel from 2013. It was studio work, dark and technical, far from the spotlight that often burns child actors in Hollywood.

She wasn't a star, she was an efficient employee.

For years, her name only appeared in the end credits of animated series such as Masha and the Bear. But that anonymity let her grow without the aesthetic pressure of the cameras. Before turning fifteen, she had already logged hours in recording studios that many veteran actors never set foot in.

The raw realism of puberty

Bo Burnham was looking for something that didn't exist at the Los Angeles casting agencies for Eighth Grade. He wanted real acne, real insecurities and anxiety that didn't look rehearsed in front of the mirror. In 2018, the film premiered at Sundance, and critics were left speechless by Fisher's performance.

She played Kayla Day with a painful fragility, and she did it without the usual mannerisms of American teen movies. That role earned her a Golden Globe nomination and pulled her out of voice-over studios at once, placing her at the front of independent film.

It was a low-budget hit.

The film grossed 14 million dollars starting from just two, proving that audiences connected with its pure discomfort. Fisher didn't act like a teenager; she simply inhabited an age that movies often portray through impossible beauty filters.

Horror, Blood and Prestige TV

After the media frenzy, she decided she didn't want to be the eternal teen in romantic comedies. In 2019, she joined the second season of Castle Rock to bring Joy Wilkes to life. There, she shared scenes with Lizzy Caplan and immersed herself in the suffocating atmosphere of Stephen King's stories.

The change of direction was abrupt and necessary.

Then came the pure genre productions. In 2022, she starred in My Best Friend's Exorcism and took part in the revival of Texas Chainsaw Massacre for Netflix. She wasn't chasing awards with these films, but she was building her craft and a way to fully step away from the child prodigy label.

Bill Hader cast her in 2023 for the final season of Barry. Her character, Katie, served as a moral compass in a storyline that was growing darker and more surreal. She shot her scenes in Los Angeles under a demanding technical direction that prioritized silence over long dialogue.

Maturity on Set

In 2023, she worked under Michel Franco in Memory. It was a supporting role alongside Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and Fisher showed she could hold her own in European arthouse dramas without missing a beat.

In 2024, she appeared in The Last Showgirl, directed by Gia Coppola. She shared the cast with Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis in a story about the decline of Las Vegas showgirls. The shoot focused on the decay of the stages and the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters in precarious settings.

Her contract for this production included specific night-shoot clauses. The final budget for the production was estimated at a few million dollars, nearly all of it going to period settings and the costume design for the showgirls.
