Jenna Lamia

Jenna Lamia didn't start in front of a film camera. Her first major tool was a microphone in a closed booth, where she recorded more than one hundred audiobooks before turning thirty. That ability to dissect other people's texts and find their exact tone ended up being her best school for screenwriting.

In 1998, she made her Broadway debut in Ah, Wilderness! and soon after moved into television. Her face became familiar to the general public thanks to Awkward. (the MTV series where she played Poppy Lyttle), but her real ambition was on the other side of the camera.

And then she decided she preferred to be the one calling the shots.

The Writers' Room as a Refuge

Writing for television demands a rhythm few can handle. Lamia joined the team of 90210 in 2008 and learned there to handle drama structures with almost surgical precision. She wasn't aiming to be the star of the show (although she kept acting in projects like The Fighter in 2010), but to understand why a scene works and another doesn't.

Her time on Good Girls between 2018 and 2021 allowed her to play with dark humor and criminal suspense. It was during that period that her name began to be mentioned in the offices of major studios as someone capable of managing budgets of several million dollars without losing narrative control.

The industry saw her as a safe bet.

Success in Hollywood doesn't depend only on talent but on reliability. In 2021, she joined Resident Alien as a writer and executive producer. The shift toward comic science fiction was no problem for her, since her foundation has always been developing complex characters.

Total Control in the Streaming Era

In 2024, Netflix entrusted her with the adaptation of The Perfect Couple. On this project, Lamia served as creator and showrunner, leading a cast headed by Nicole Kidman. She went from being a supporting actress to the top boss of an international film set.

She took on the job of adapting an Elin Hilderbrand bestseller into a six-episode miniseries.

Filming in Massachusetts during 2023 had to face the strikes that brought the industry to a standstill. But the project moved forward with a final cut that prioritized the internal tension of a wealthy family in Nantucket. The production, run by her own company, had to manage a production insurance policy that reached 450,000 dollars to cover possible weather-related delays.
