Jin Shirasu wasn't looking for fame when he entered the Junon Super Boy contest in 2010. That teenage decision was the trigger for a career that began with a spot among the thirty finalists. He didn't win the top prize, but he caught the attention of talent scouts in the Japanese industry.
In 2011, he made his stage debut in the musical The Prince of Tennis. It was a demanding baptism of fire that required him to learn martial discipline and technical coordination. Playing Ohtori Chotaro forced him to understand the rhythm of live performance before facing television cameras.
And the gamble paid off.
After that stage experience came his first supporting roles in television dramas. In 2013, he took part in the series Kurokouchi and began to refine a dry acting style that avoids excessive gestures. In Japanese fiction, restraint is often a rising asset for actors who aspire to longevity.
Mass recognition beyond Japan's borders took a few years to arrive. In 2019, he starred in I Don’t Love You Yet (Boku wa Mada Kimi o Aisanai Koto ga Dekiru) alongside Adachi Rika. This production was an adaptation of a Taiwanese hit that required constant chemistry between its lead couple.
But the project that truly transformed his international profile was Life Senjou no Bokura in 2020. In this series, he played Ito Akira and explored the complexities of a relationship across several decades of life. The emotional rawness of his character drew a global audience thanks to its distribution on digital platforms.
The audience responded with record-breaking viewership numbers.
Many young actors get stuck in romance genres for their entire careers. Shirasu avoided that stagnation by alternating light dramas with thrillers and more professionally oriented stories. In 2021, he worked on Rika: Reverse and showed he could handle much darker, more psychological atmospheres.
In 2022, the actor announced his marriage to model and TV personality Manami Katsura. The news was handled with the discretion typical of public figures in Tokyo (no big announcements or unnecessary noise in the tabloids). This personal stability coincided with a phase of steady work on projects of varying scale.
And the change of register was evident.
In 2023, he joined the cast of Kanojo-tachi no Hanzai, taking on a role that moved away from the traditional leading-man image. His control of narrative timing in the tense scenes confirmed that his theater training was still the foundation of his current technique. During that same period, he also took part in Black Postman, adding solidity to a mystery plot.
In 2024, she voiced the character Graham in the Japanese version of Gekai Elise (Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp). This foray into animated voice work broadened her range toward using only her voice. Filming of her latest live-action series that same year was completed in just three months of intensive production.
